Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for dynamic trainees wishing to pursue a career in the Vascular Service, and will provide experience in both emergency and elective theatre sessions.

The Trust Doctors will be work closely with other central doctors in the establishment. The on call rota will be a 1 in 6 full shift with prospective cover. On call commitments are for the Vascular teams only.

The Trust Doctor will attend OPD, operating theatre and angio sessions and the department has a good track record in training.

The post holder will be expected to be flexible and open to changes, to identify opportunities for improvement and to play an active role in developing, implementing and sustaining improvements to working practices and patient services.

For more experienced trainees who plan to complete CESR route, we offer support and advice.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will have elective and emergency responsibilities in vascular surgery in NCIC. He/she will have regular elective duties within vascular surgery during the day from Monday to Fridays. Duties will include vascular clinics, elective theatres, MDT meetings, ward rounds and PDT (personal development time). The doctors will undertake vascular on call on call on a 1 in 6 rota which will comprise 0800-1700 resident on call and 1700-0800 non-resident on call for vascular surgery. Doctors will provide prospective cover for colleagues on approved annual and study leave.

Successful candidates will have responsibilities for the day-to-day care of all patients under the Vascular Surgery Consultants at NCIC. The department delivers vascular services as an arterial hub (CIC) with spoke services at WCH. The service delivers the full complement of general vascular interventions (open and endovascular), including aortic aneurysms, carotid territory embolic disease, peripheral vascular disease, varicose veins and deep venous interventions. We also deliver renal access services to support the local nephrology service and offer vascular input into a multidisciplinary diabetic foot service. The programme of training for each individual doctor will be flexible depending on his/her particular needs and stage of training.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS MB ChB or equivalent registerable qualification
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council
