Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic radiologist to join the team of cardiothoracic radiologists working cross site to provide high quality cardiothoracic imaging services to Oxfordshire and to support the on call service. The Trust is a cancer centre with a large oncology unit, a cardiothoracic surgical centre, a tertiary referral centre for interstitial lung disease and pleural disease and is also a major trauma centre. The Directorate is progressive and keen to invest in the future workforce with such measures as a 4 day week, home reporting, advanced practitioner radiographers and cycle to work schemes.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide imaging support for cardiothoracic patients and have on call and cross-sectional imaging responsibility for the Trust. The Directorate is developing an extended day working on rotation and the candidate will be expected to participate in this service.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be part of the cardiothoracic radiology team and deliver high quality imaging, intervention and biopsy services across the Trust. Additional subspecialty interests may be accommodated/supported e.g. in oncological imaging.

The Trust is a tertiary referral centre for lung cancer, pleural and interstitial lung disease and supports the following thoracic MDT meetings: lung cancer, mesothelioma, interstitial lung disease, interventional COPD and general respiratory meetings. The post holder will be required to attend and present at these. The post holder will also contribute to acute imaging, providing in-patient CT and US sessions and image-guided intervention such as biopsy and drainages. The post holder will work at the Horton and Oxford Hospitals. It is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trusts locations although travel will be remunerated.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • FRCR or equivalent
  • CCT in Radiology or registration on GMC Specialist Register in Radiology, or within 6 months of achieving CCT at the time of interview.
  • At least one year higher level training in Cardiothoracic radiology at a recognised training centre.
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practice

Desirable

  • Additional post graduate medical qualification
  • Fellowship in cardiothoracic imaging.
  • Training in cardiac CT angiography, to a recognised level of expertis

Experience

Essential

  • General training in Radiology to Specialist Level or equivalent.
  • Additional work experience in thoracic / cardiac radiology as above.
  • CT, MRI and US imaging of cardiothoracic disease in a tertiary referral centre
  • CT and US interventional skills including lung biopsy
  • Ability to make decisions at consultant leve

Desirable

  • Cardiac CT angiography at a tertiary referral centre

  • EEvidence of leadership skills
  • Evidence of organisational skills, communication skills, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant in Radiology in a major teaching hospital.
  • Evidence to support good professional skills as required for good medical practice.

  • An understanding of clinical governance and experience of clinical audit
  • Interest in research with publications and presentation(s) at National/International meeting(s)

Desirable

  • Previous management experience
  • Knowledge of organisation of NHS and governments agenda for modernisation of the NHS. Evidence of management training.
  • Good computing skills, word processing/ spreadsheet and web browser use
  • Post graduate teaching experience
  • Recent peer reviewed publications
