Compass is delighted to have been selected as the new provider of Mental Health Support Teams in education settings in Birmingham working in partnership to meet the emotional health and wellbeing needs of children and young people across the City. Based in Great Barr to the North of the City we have been working in partnership with health, care and education in the local area since September 2023.

School Practitioners will be recruited to commence in our new Mental Health Support Team. This role is a real opportunity to help shape the services we provide with children, young people, families and educational settings and to develop your career in mental health support to children, young people and families.
The role will work alongside new and existing colleagues to further develop MHSTs in Birmingham with a focus on building partnerships with education settings and to drive the implementation of highly effective and CYPF focussed mental health and wellbeing services in line with the national MHST operating framework; supporting and innovating with practitioners and colleagues in the service.
There will also be opportunities in the future to undertake further training including a Post Graduate Certificate in clinical supervision and advanced clinical training.
Main duties of the job
Compass Birmingham MHST is an early intervention mental health and emotional wellbeing service. The service delivers evidenced based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health needs.
It is part of the MHST Trailblazer Programme, which has been commissioned following the Transforming Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Care Provision: A Green Paper (2017).
You will need to demonstrate in your application that you have a nationally recognised mental health qualification meeting the requirements of the MHST training examples include EMHP, CWP, mental health nurse, psychotherapy or social work qualification which must be registered with the appropriate governing body, e.g. BABCP or NMC or an equivalent and a minimum of 18 months experience working therapeutically with children and young people.
Applicants must have excellent communication skills and be able to network with other agencies as central to the role.
You must possess a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle, or be able to commute efficiently between sites and schools. An enhanced level DBS check is required for this role.

Qualifications
Essential
- Core professional and/or clinical qualification e.g. EMHP, CWP, PMHW, Senior emhp nursing with specialism in mental health or learning disability nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work.
- Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable
- Management / supervision training
- Post Graduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Mentorship qualification
Experience
Essential
- 2 years working therapeutically with children and young people.
- Evidence of clinical development in practice.
- Experience of effective engagement with families and carers.
- Risk assessment and management in the delivery of clinical services (including safeguarding).
Desirable
- Experience of delivering CBT informed supervision
- Experience of line management and/or delivery of clinical supervision
- Experience of inducting staff members to the area with confidence.
- Experience of working in a community and/or educational environment.
- Experience of organising team duties.
