Job summary
We
would welcome applications from an enthusiastic Fellowship trained Orthopaedic
Surgeon with a specialist interest in Foot & Ankle surgery. The applicant
will join a
dynamic
department of 17 Full time orthopaedic surgeons working across all 3 sites at
Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust.
The
post will involve delivering complex hindfoot and midfoot reconstruction
surgery, and improving the provision for MDT Diabetic / Rheumatoid management. The successful candidate will contribute to
centrally delivered trauma surgery at Pinderfields Hospital.
The
post will continue to develop the Foot & Ankle unit, which is supported by Specialist
Physiotherapist and Advanced Nurse practitioners. An interest in innovative MDT
working, improving unit research output and education will be encouraged.

provide a comprehensive service including general Orthopaedic trauma and will
provide continuing clinical responsibility for patients under his/her care.
There will be a 1:16 on-call commitment, therefore it is
essential to demonstrate active commitment to the management of trauma.
The post is for a subspecialty interest in Foot and Ankle
Surgery, therefore it is essential to evidence fellowship level training.
Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hours
on-call; schedules will take due account of the provisions of working time
regulations and safe working
Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the
Trust Framework, with at least a
minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10 PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC
time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate
and changing requirements of the service.

Job responsibilities
This post is
offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications
will be considered. This post is for 12 months.
This post
represents an exciting opportunity to join a group of dynamic Consultant
Orthopaedic Surgeons in providing a wide range of elective orthopaedic services
and trauma services to the population of approximately 400,000 in the Wakefield
and Kirklees area of Yorkshire.
Duties will
be based primarily on our Trauma Unit (Pinderfields General Hospital,
Wakefield) site and Elective Orthopaedic Surgical Hub (Pontefract General
Infirmary) - although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to
patients on all our sites.
