Job summary
Report plain film x-rays to a high and accurate standard in accordance to trust guidelines.
First line responsibility and lead the General Xray service which includes Plain film, Dental, Accident and Emergency, Theatre and Mobiles and Inpatient x-ray services cross site.
To manage the staff rotas, their personal development, appraisal and discipline and record/monitor sickness levels.
To provide professional support for staff and contribute towards the development of plans to improve patient care within current professional and legal standards, national and local policies.
To constantly monitor the effectiveness of the departmental protocols and procedures, if necessary, using audit outcomes or research from internal or external sources to initiate new protocols and procedures
Responsible for the training and development of student radiographers and radiographers.
Regularly provide clinical advice to other clinical staff and less experienced radiographers
To ensure that all radiographers working in the x-ray department produce high quality diagnostic images.

Main duties of the job
- Report plain film x-rays to a high and accurate standard in according to trust guidelines.
- To act as an expert practitioner demonstrating and disseminating advanced practice and knowledge in plain film x-ray examinations.
- Provide and lead on an expert plain film service
Maintain and develop links with leads and experts to ensure that standards and scope of training and to provide staff with appropriate levels of knowledge and skills to meet the needs of the service.
To participate in a programme of audit ensuring inclusivity of all aspects of clinical practice within the department related to plain film x-ray.
To possess a high level of specialist knowledge in plain film x-ray and reporting.
To independently undertake a range of general x-ray examinations. To use initiative in adaptive techniques to optimise image quality and diagnostic yield.
To utilise in-depth knowledge and experience and to advise and problem-solve when confronted by clinical and technical issues.
Be accountable for own professional actions and reports that can directly and immediately affect patient care.
