REPORTS TO : Physiotherapy Clinical Specialist, Therapy Clinical Team Leader

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Therapy Specialty Lead MSK and Therapy Head of Service

We have exciting vacancies for static Band 5 Physiotherapist to join our 3 Musculoskeletal Out-patients teams. The posts will be based in one of our out-patient teams (Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital, Glenfield Hospital) and the post holders will be able to rotate within the teams on a yearly basis.

Please be aware that the interviews for this post involve a practical assessment of clinical reasoning. For this reason we are unlikely to consider a virtual interview. Please consider this before your application.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for managing your own caseload, carrying out assessments, treatments and interventions.

You will demonstrate excellent communication and time management skills, be able to work on your own and within a team.

You will receive regular clinical reasoning, appraisal and will benefit from a comprehensive induction.

We have a robust in-service training programme to enhance knowledge and skills and you will be expected to take an active role in your continuous personal development.

The Out-patients team comprises of:-

  • Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners
  • Clinical Specialist Physiotherapists
  • Senior MSK Physiotherapists
  • Rotational and Static Band 5 Physiotherapists
  • Technical Instructors and Physiotherapy Assistants

You will also participate in the weekend rosters working on inpatient orthopaedics.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To provide a high standard of physiotherapy care as part of a responsive and patient centered service.
  • To effectively manage an autonomous clinical caseload and to undertake duties as a qualified Physiotherapist, under the supervision of Senior staff.
  • Developing Clinical skills and knowledge relevant to specific patient group and applying them appropriately.
  • Practising to own levels of competency and seeking appropriate advice and support from more senior staff when needed so that patient care is not compromised.
  • To use prioritising and time management skills to meet the unpredictable and conflicting needs of the service.
  • Building effective and constructive working relationships with other Physiotherapists and members of the healthcare team.
  • To persuade, motivate, reassure and encourage patients in undertaking their treatment programme, ensure understanding of their condition and communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential.
  • Assisting the senior staff in the measurement and evaluation of own work and current practises through the use of Evidence Based Practise projects, audit and outcome measures.
  • Using critical analysis and reflection to evaluate and develop own practise.
  • Developing an awareness of how the physiotherapy service interacts with other agencies, organisations and processes in support of patients e.g. intermediate care, social services, voluntary services and continuing care.
  • Communicating effectively with all members of the health care team and ensuring timely communication with the relevant team leader on all professional matters.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma in Physiotherapy or BSC (Hons) Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • State Registered Physiotherapist with current HCPC registration

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of a wide range of student clinical placements including experience of treating patients with respiratory, orthopaedic, medical and neurological conditions.

Desirable

  • Evidence of involvement in research / audit
  • Experience of working within an NHS Trust
  • Evidence of experience of working with physiotherapy assistants /TI's
  • Evidence of experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Evidence of experience in providing advise to patients and carers

Communication and relationship skills

Essential

  • Evidence of good interpersonal and communication skills, written, verbal and non-verbal

Other requirements specific to the role

Essential

  • Evidence of a commitment to personal development

Desirable

  • Computer skills
