Job summary
We
are looking for a production assistant to work in the Pharmacy production unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital. The role entails working
in a clean environment to produce sterile products.
Previous
experience in working in an aseptic unit is preferred but not essential.
You preferably should possess NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or Science
Manufacturing process operative qualification.
If
you do not possess this Qualification, you must be willing to
undertake the Science manufacturing process operative (NVQ Level 2) in the
first year of employment, funded by the Department. You will be
paid as Band 3 Annex 21 until this Qualification is gained.
This Post has a requirement for seven-day working including weekends, late nights and
bank holidays.
The
majority of time will be spent working in the manufacturing unit, but you may
be required to support other Pharmacy areas such as inpatient dispensary.
The role does require working in an aseptic
isolator for prolonged periods and requires good manual dexterity.
Main duties of the job
The
pharmacy production unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital supplies in excess of 20,000
ready to administer chemotherapy items per year.
We are looking for an organised production assistant to participate in the preparation of
cytotoxic and other agents. You will be working as part of a team to supply
chemotherapy to Oncology and Haematology units in Sunderland and South Tyneside
hospitals.
The
role includes liaising closely with chemotherapy administration units, nursing,
medical and pharmacy production staff in order to produce sterile products in a
timely manner.
Aseptics
is a lesser-known but exciting area of pharmacy that provides opportunity for
continued professional growth development.

Qualifications
Essential
- Pharmaceutical qualification (NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Services or equivalent) or willing to work towards.
- GCSEs in English Language and Maths.
