Job summary

Applications are invited for this exciting post based at NHS Blood and Transplant and Oxford University Hospitals Trust. The purpose is to provide clinical leadership in all aspects of Transfusion Medicine, including patient blood management (PBM) and clinical transfusion. This post is initially for 12 months as a locum, with a substantive post advertised within the year.

Key duties include making an active contribution to the safety of patients. You will contribute to patient blood management, support one of the regional transfusion committees of the National Blood Transfusion Committee and provide advice on appropriate blood use and transfusion and Haematology leadership and expertise within Oxford University Hospitals Trust. You will be expected to represent the clinical team on national committees, operational project teams and ad hoc working groups as required.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to participate in daytime and out-of-hours on call rotas (by telephone) for transfusion medicine (patient-facing on call rota for NHSBT). NHSBT is the sole provider of blood components and organs for transplantation to the NHS as well as supplying tissues and haemopoietic stem cells for transplantation, therapeutic apheresis and immunohaematological diagnostics. NHSBT has a Research and Development programme in collaboration with leading academic centres.

You must be on the GMC Specialist Register with a licence to practise with the General Medical Council or be eligible for registration within 6 months of interview.
