Job summary

This is a great opportunity for a highly trained Family Therapist to join the Early Interventions service as a member of the senior clinical leadership team , which includes a First Episode of Psychosis (FEP) and At Risk Mental State (ARMS) pathway . The post holder will take a lead and focus for Carers and Famillies, ensuring that high quality NICE approved interventions are offered to the support networks surrounding our service users.

The post holder will work alongside colleagues within the MDT to provide evidence-based treatment to people and families throughout Nottinghamshire county/ city who present with mental ill health

Supporting the leadership team to develop and embed an 'opt in ' approach to working with carers families' and friends , that values their experience and expertise. The post holder will take a lead on training, supervsion, audit, clinical consultancy and direct clinical work. They will work closely with the Family Interventions Team as part of wider wider training and supervsion team

The Early Interventions Service is a county and city wide service, with a strong managerial and clinical team that oversight. The post holder will be expected to travel to different sites/ base as required. However flexibility is granted to work from home on occasions and the base can be negotiated

Main duties of the job

Contribute to the assessment of patients/supporters with a specific responsibility in assessing suitability for Family Intervention's within the ARMS & FEP pathway

Responsible for the provision of specialist Family Interventions to patients/supporters based on various models of family interventions, within an evidenced based approach.

Make recommendations based on specialist family Interventions of presenting areas for work to be carried out with patients/supporters by staff and provide support and supervision as necessary to colleagues to carry these out.

In conjunction with managers and senior clinicians, develop procedures and processes for the application of Family Interventions within the service.

Support in the facilitation of the Carer Education & Support Programme (CESP)

Support ongoing service development relating to NICE guidelines and EIP access & waiting time standard

Engage with other professionals to development a family inclusive approach for service uses and their loved ones on the FEP & ARMS pathway (PCN's CYP services)

Acting as a service ambassador on a reginal and national level

To participate as a senior clinician in the development of a high quality, responsive and accessible service including advising both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where Family Interventions is appropriate.

To participate as appropriate in staff recruitment.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will offer specialist assessment and treatment for young people who present with a variety of Mental Health difficulties and disorders. They will provide liaison, consultation and support to other agencies and work closely with our partners in paediatrics and inpatient CAMHS. The post holder will be supported to take on a leadership role to ensure service development and provide leadership cover when required to support the service lead. They will offer support and supervision to more junior colleagues, students, and trainees, in return the post holder will receive systemic supervision from colleagues within the Trust.

CAMHS in Nottinghamshire are developing an exciting Systemic Family Psychotherapy offer with opportunities to develop and access further training, such as systemic supervision. Colleagues within the Trust are offering a live training team opportunity for those currently undertaking the MSc in Systemic Family Psychotherapy. Within the Trust we have a reading group for those interested in systemic thinking and practice and now have colleagues who have completed the CYP IAPT SFP training and are contributing to the care of children, young people and their families. The service is involved in developing Family Therapy Training Posts and it is hoped that the post holder will be able to contribute to the training programme and help colleagues understand the importance of systemic thinking and practice.

Qualifications - Academic / Craft / Professional

Essential

  • Core Qualification - RMN, OT, SW or psychology
  • Registration to reverent professional body

Desirable

  • Training in other relevant therapeutic modalities
  • Leadership (qualification/recognised training
  • Qualification in clinical supervision recognised (by accrediting body)

Training

Essential

  • Trained in a NICE approved family intervention model (BFT, CBFI)

Desirable

  • BFT train the trainer
  • Training in psycho social interventions
  • Teaching training/qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant practice in first profession plus clinical experience as above.
  • Experience of working with people who have mental health difficulties/diagnoses and their families
  • Experience of working with diverse service user groups
  • Experience of maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of working in a family therapy setting or service and reflecting team approach
  • Experience of working with people and their families with psychosis
  • Extensive experience at a band 6 level or above

Desirable

  • Experience of working in an early intervention Service
  • Experience of Leadership of teams and clinical staff
  • Experience of Clinical supervision of qualified and trainee Family Therapists/ Systemic practitioners
  • Experience of training others in family interventions

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of the theory and practices of specialist family therapies and clinical supervision as practised within the field of systemic psychotherapy
  • Knowledge of guidelines/policy informing best practice within mental health services for families
  • Knowledge of research and models of good practice that inform direct and indirect working
  • Knowledge of evidenced treatments when working with people with a mental health disorder

  • Skills in using complex methods of specialist assessment, formulation, intervention, and clinical management in a range of contexts frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration and maintaining a restricted position for long periods .
