Job summary

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our outstanding and innovative Speech and Language Therapy Team, working within Mid Essex. We are looking for a Band 5/6 therapist to work across a range of pathways, including speech, social communication, complex needs (including dysphagia if you have relevant experience) and language. The post holder will be supported to excel in working independently and enjoy delivering therapy to children and young people in a variety of settings.

The successful candidate will be supported by our well-respected and highly motivated team, and will have access to regular supervision, in-house training and whole-team meetings. If newly qualified, we will offer a perceptorship programme which not only develop competencies for the role, but instill feelings of confidence and belonging. Development of clinical leadership skills will also be supported.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will hold an appropriate Speech and Language Therapy degree and be HCPC/RCSLT registered. They will be supported to work independently, as well as part of a team. They will have experience of working with children with speech, language and communication difficulties (which includes student placements). They will also provide training (in-person or virtually) to nursery and school staff and parents as required.

The post holder will offer support/work with our assistants and associate practitioners; contribute to discussions on proposed local clinical guidelines, protocols and care packages, and attend speech and language therapy team meetings, inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary meetings.

This post requires the therapist to engage with the child and family; liaise with nursery and school staff, and contribute to Educational Health and Care Plans when necessary. This post also requires the candidate to drive to various locations, predominantly, within Mid-Essex.

Duties, Responsibilities and Key Relationships of the job

Operational or Strategic Responsibilities:

  • To ensure the provision of a comprehensive speech, language and communication therapy services to children. This includes assessment; differential diagnosis; clinical decision making and provision of appropriate levels of intervention based on best practice.
  • To provide training to nursery and school staff and parents as required.
  • To adhere to quality guidelines and participate in service monitoring and clinical audit.
  • To adhere to agreed administrative procedures for the service including the collection of statistical data.
  • To adhere to the service plan and agreed protocols.
  • To contribute to discussions on proposed local clinical guidelines, protocols and care packages.
  • To develop lone working skills with supervision.
  • To offer support to assistants and associate practitioners, and support volunteers and students and contribute to their development.
  • To fulfill statutory requirements towards other agencies. This includes the provision of complex written reports for the statutory assessment process.
  • To attend Speech and Language Therapy Departmental Team meetings, inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary meetings.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Licence to Practice Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Valid UK driver's licence

Desirable

  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary team
  • Training in therapy approaches, e.g. PECS, Attention Autism
  • Knowledge of resources to support CYP with SLCN
