Mo te turanga - About the role

The Otago urology service, based at Dunedin Public Hospital, have an exciting opportunity of a permanent part time (0.8 - 1.0 FTE) Consultant Urologist who will join our experienced team of urologists. The service provides a combination of inpatient, outpatient and community services to our patients in the Otago catchment area. There are also opportunities to run clinics and undertake simple surgery in other Otago centres such as Queenstown, Alexandra, and Oamaru.

The role will provide a 1:4 on call with our existing urologists and work directly alongside a senior urology trainee, two non-training junior doctors, and a senior, experienced and dedicated specialist urology nursing team. Dunedin Hospital urology service has 24-hour interventional radiology support, access to full ICU and HDU facilities and close support from oncology and nephrology departments.

Dunedin Hospital has a strong partnership with the University of Otago and part of the role will include the training and teaching of our medical students. There is also an opportunity for academic FTE for the right candidate by expression of interest through this role.

There is a clinical focus on urology oncology, endourology (stones), laparoscopic procedures, and management of BPE and LUTS.

The role responsibilities include the following:

  • Providing high quality patient centred care
  • Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning
  • Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service
  • Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
  • Active participation in continuing medical education

Utu whānui - Salary range

This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($185,380) and Step 15 ($267,980 per annum pro rata) - dependant on prior experience and allowances in additional to this.
