Job summary

This is a rotational post and the post holder is required to work in all areas within the Maternity Services providing antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. The post holder will participate in quality improvements, and service developments.

The post holder will have an annual appraisal and undertake continuing professional development. It is expected that midwives work autonomously within the Trust guidelines and sphere of professional practice.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for rotational/core midwives to join our enthusiastic and committed midwifery team. You will be joining a well-established team, dedicated to the on-going promotion of women-centred care and better births.

As a member of our team you will be professional, reliable, safe and compassionate for women, babies and their families. You will work collaboratively within our multidisciplinary team in an environment that is open, supportive and empowering.

Your experience will ensure that you provide a high standard of care to mothers and their relatives/carers. This in turn will be supported by our well established and robust in-house training programmes alongside an accessible approach to supervision.

Band 6 midwife - for those who have successfully completed a preceptorship programme and/or are experienced midwives.

Flexible shifts including days, weekends and nights are available to support our growing population and service needs.

Our maternity services provide care for approximately 4,800 women and their families. We offer a variety of birth choices for our diverse population and have a dedicated suite for women experiencing bereavement. We have a level 2 neonatal service and close links with the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Education, and Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife
  • ENB 997/MSPP

Desirable

  • NVQ assesor
  • Evidence of further study

Experience

Essential

  • Experience as a preceptor Midwife
  • Ability to be a mentor to student midwives/nurses/MCA's
  • Completion of mentor assessor workshops

Desirable

  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively within it

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Professional appearance and behaviour
  • Clinical skills, in particular: Suturing Cannulation Supervision of epidural infusion
  • Good communicator both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to write clearly and legibly in English
  • Ability to work on own initiative and mange own time
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of evidence informed and research based practice
  • Willing to undertake further study
  • Knowledge of NMC Code of Conduct, Guidelines and Professional Practice
  • Awareness and knowledge of vulnerable adult and child Protection issues
  • Good previous attendance record
  • Flexible approach to working hours and practices
  • Satisfactory enhanced DBS with check against vulnerable groups barred lists
