Job summary

This post is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of £2,750 for new starters who are external to the Trust. This is payable in 3 instalments over a 2 year period. This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust and have not been an employee of the Trust in the previous 3 years. This post also includes paid enhancements for unsocial hours working during night, weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

Working within HMP Nottingham provides an exciting opportunity for all healthcare professionals. The Primary Healthcare Team provides a wide variety of care from initial assessment / screening for all new patients, clinical triage, emergency response, care of minor illness and injuries, nurse led clinics for long term conditions and health promotion. We aim to provide healthcare to offenders that is equivalent to those in the community.

The integrated healthcare service provided by the Healthcare Team at HMP Nottingham aims to provide consistent, equitable, high quality and timely physical and mental health services to all prisoners. You will have the support and opportunity to develop your skills in a range of areas including; assessing patient conditions, triaging services and providing appropriate clinical interventions including emergency care.

Job description

Job responsibilities

We provide a Primary Care Service 24/7, a Mental Health service and Substance Misuse service over 7 days a week.

Its the variety of this role which will provide a stimulating experience like no other, one minute you could be delivering a nurse led clinic, the next you may be attending an emergency response.

You will be able to work autonomously whilst always having the support of a strong team when required.

You will be involved in leading and developing nurse- led clinics for health screening, vaccination and immunisation and long term conditions.

Qualifications

Essential

  • First level registered nurse / RN

Desirable

  • Certificate/Diploma in Counselling
  • Significant demonstrable experience within the substance misuse field with evidence of appropriate continued learning.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of assessing patient conditions, triaging services and providing appropriate clinical interventions.
  • Experience of working effectively within MDT.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in criminal justice setting.
  • Experience of close working relationships with a variety of statutory agencies and other external organisations.
  • Experience of supervising and mentoring junior staff.
