Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a research midwife to join our team to cover the midwifery and gynaecology portfolio. The post is for 12 months to provide maternity cover and will provide an opportunity to be involved with exciting clinical trials that have the potential to change clinical practice. This unique opportunity allows the successful candidate to follow patients from recruitment through to study close out so being able to build a rapport with patients is essential. Although not part of the direct clinical care team you will have the opportunity to provide support throughout pregnancy from antenatal to the post-natal period within the scope of the clinical trials protocol. You need to be able to work autonomously and manage a case load of patients.

Main duties of the job

As a Research Midwife you will support the Research Team Lead to identify studies, assessing team capacity and workloads, prioritisation, assessment, management and recruitment of patients to clinical research studies within Midwifery and Reproductive health and gynaecology. The role involves using an in depth knowledge of trial protocols and their application in practice alongside a working knowledge and compliance with local, national and international research regulations. You will also be responsible for your own clinical caseload and studies.

You will support the Research Team in commercial and academic clinical trials, including assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating research nursing care and providing support to patients who have been or have the potential to be recruited onto a clinical trial programme. This includes ensuring the clinical trial has full approval to proceed, collecting data, interviewing, supporting, monitoring patients and data entry. Clinical aspects of the role will include phlebotomy, processing of blood specimens, drug administration and clinical observations. The role includes close liaison with clinicians, data managers, sponsors, research and development, and outpatient and inpatient staff.

Experience

  • * Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
  • * Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff
  • * Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD
  • * Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff
  • * Experience of mentoring undergraduate students
