could be the perfect opportunity for you! First Community Health and Care form
part of the Children and Family Health Surrey partnership, and we are looking
for highly motivated and enthusiastic qualified nurses or midwives who are
interested in training to become School Nurses. This is a one-year, full time
MSc course which is 50% in practice and 50% at the University of Surrey in
order to complete both the practice and theoretical elements of the course. The
course runs from September 2024 until September 2025. To complete the course,
applicants must be able to meet the academic requirements set by the University
of Surrey and must be available for the whole year.
Main duties of the job
Applicants
are required to take responsibility for their own learning and to inform their Community
Practice Assessor/ Practice Educator and University tutor should there be any exceptional
circumstances preventing the completion of any aspects of the course.
Always
maintain confidentiality, follow organisational sickness and absence policy.
Undertake
duties allocated by Practice Assessor/Supervisor being flexible as needed and writing
records within organisational guidelines.
Work
collaboratively with the skill mixed School Nursing team & wider multidisciplinary
team ensuring equity of service provision, promoting good practice and the
sharing of resources.
Participate
in the delivery of the Healthy Child programme 5-19, including school health
sessions, health promotion and Chat Health.
Participate
to identify/support children and families who have unmet health needs,
providing support and targeted interventions and where necessary referring to
specialist services.
Take appropriate
action in cases of suspected or actual child abuse, working within Surrey
safeguarding code of practice and procedures, attending child protection
meetings such as Case Conference and Core groups with Practice Supervisor/
Practice Assessor.
Participate
in clinical audit and evaluation of service. Work in accordance with the needs
of the service, may be required to undertake other duties as required within
current skill set.

Job description
Job responsibilities
The post holder is
responsible for engaging fully in all clinical practice learning and academic
learning to complete the BSc (Hons) Degree/Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist
Community Public Health (Specialist Practitioner award in School Nursing). This
will involve liaising with all relevant parties within the practice area and at
the assigned University to gain the desired 50% theory and 50% practical
element of the course. To attain successful completion, the student will be
required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the primary care
setting, carrying out clinical duties with patients/clients as agreed with
their Practice Teacher.

- Current NMC registration Registered Nurse/Registered Mental health Nurse/ Midwife.
- Evidence of NMC revalidation where applicable
- For BSc course a minimum of an appropriate qualification to diploma level 120 credits at level 5
- For MSc course a first level degree in a related subject (2.2 class or above) or an equivalent approved course from a university
