Are you an experienced and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist with significant experience of working within musculoskeletal outpatient pathways and looking for a new challenge in a leadership position?

Are you passionate about supporting services and staff to provide high quality, evidence-based, inclusive, patient-centred outpatient MSK care? Could you be an ambassador for your profession within and beyond University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW)?

At UHBW we are currently seeking applications for a Band 8a Pathway Lead Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to support integrated MSK outpatient services across Bristol and Weston. The successful candidate will work alongside the Divisional Therapy Lead for outpatients, fellow MSK Pathway Lead(s), Team Leads and the rest of the MSK teams at UHBW to provide a range of MSK outpatient services for patients in Bristol and North Somerset. They will also support the integrated Adult Therapy Service across UHBW as part of the Adult Therapies leadership team. Main duties of the job

MSK outpatient services provided by UHBW include; aquatic physiotherapy, general MSK physiotherapy, haemophilia physiotherapy, hand rehabilitation, pelvic health physiotherapy, pain management services, rheumatology therapy and acute MSK therapy services in ED and orthopaedic clinics.

The main aspects of the role are:

  • To provide operational and clinical leadership to the MSK outpatient pathways at UHBW (Weston and Bristol sites) in conjunction with the Therapy Lead for outpatients, the other pathway lead(s) and MSK clinical specialists.
  • To work with the MSK leadership team, both within UHBW and the wider local system, to support and enable delivery of high quality, patient-centred care. The successful candidate will seek and drive opportunities to continuously improve and develop services. A key part of achieving this will be encouraging staff to develop in their profession (both clinical and leadership skills) and supporting staff wellbeing.

The post holder will support teams across Bristol and Weston-Super-Mare and, as such, will be required to be able to travel and work across sites.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • HCPC registered
  • Demonstration of continued education / training in MSK or associated area

Desirable

  • Postgraduate training at masters level or equivalent in relevant clinical or managerial area
  • Formal supervisory or people management based qualification

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Varied post-graduate clinical experience across specialties at both junior and senior grades with time spent in a 'physical' acute hospital setting
  • Significant clinical experience at a senior level in areas relevant to MSK Out-Patient Pathways
  • Demonstrates experience of leading teams - day to day management including management of issues such as absence or performance management
  • Evidence of recruiting, interviewing & appointing staff
  • Demonstrates experience of people management including undergraduate students
  • Evidence of significant experience of clinical supervision, mentoring and teaching
  • Evidence of knowledge and experience of using clinical outcome measures and audit

Desirable

  • Evidence of some knowledge and awareness of financial management systems - basic understanding of budgets
  • Evidence of implementing change
