Job summary

The Physician Associate role is being developed to work alongside the department's Doctors and multidisciplinary team. The role will give the successful candidate and opportunity to work in a dynamic and welcoming outpatients team.You will have an educational supervision and annual appraisal to overview your career development and mentorship, extensive training in respiratory sleep medicine will be provided.All applicants must hold a qualification in Physician Associate Studies and be listed on the Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register to be considered for this post.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work under clinical supervision of the consultant body within the department to deliver high-quality care to patients.

They will be required to:

  • Undertake initial and follow-up assessments of patients referred to the sleep unit, initiating and evaluating different treatments including CPAP.
  • Participate in outpatient review of patients on long-term CPAP therapy.
  • Request and interpret results of diagnostic assessments.
  • Support multidisciplinary staff on the use of CPAP for inpatients both within and outside the Trust, including set-up, assessment and evaluation of therapy.
  • Assist in the triage and assessment of new patient referrals.
  • Contribute to and partake in departmental teaching.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Minimum of a BSc/BA undergraduate degree prior to undertaking PA training
  • MSc/PgDip in Physician Associate Studies from a recognised PA training programme
  • Current and valid certification or re-certification by the Physician Associate National Exam
  • Registered with the UK Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR)
  • Member of the Faculty of Physician Associates
  • Evidence of post-qualification learning and development
  • Basic Life Support

Desirable

  • Intermediate Life Support
  • Advanced Life Support

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in working as a fully qualified Physician Associate
  • Excellent knowledge of medical science and its application to clinical scenarios
  • Able to demonstrate sound clinical judgement
  • Experience working cohesively within a multidisciplinary team

Desirable

  • Experience of working in secondary care
  • Experience in clinical audit
  • Experience mentoring and training PA students
  • Awareness of current developments and initiatives in the specialty area
  • Experience of undertaking outpatient clinics
  • Experience of working in Respiratory medicine
