Are you looking for a more dynamic midwifery role? Our 'Outstanding' rated Maternity Unit at Queen Charlottes and Chelsea Hospital are looking for an experienced midwife to join their team in a hybrid role covering our labour ward and antenatal ward.

If you are a passionate and skilled midwife, we invite you to join our team in a dynamic, permanent hybrid role at the Lewis Suite Antenatal Ward and Labour Ward. Lewis Suite boasts a 14-bed capacity. Staffed with two midwives, this position offers the unique opportunity to work closely within a small team, providing continuous and comprehensive care to expectant mothers. Whilst our Labour ward offers the opportunity to maintain your intrapartum skills and work within a dynamic MDT.

Your responsibilities will also include contributing to the daily operations of the wards, participating in multidisciplinary rounds, and mentoring a diverse group of midwives, students, and support staff. Furthermore, you will collaborate with ward managers and matrons to continuously enhance service quality and safety, and engage with patients and service users to develop the service based on feedback.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as a prime care provider in all aspects of midwifery care.
  • To work flexibly within the team to provide service cover for the Antenatal Ward and Labour Ward
  • The post holder is expected to be an expert clinical midwife who will give advice and guidance on the midwifery care of women and pregnant people, babies and their families
  • To provide and delivery a high standard of midwifery care for in-patients during the antenatal period
  • To support the day to day running of the Antenatal Ward and Labour Ward including multidisciplinary ward rounds
  • Be a mentor to preceptor midwives, international midwives, students and support staff
  • To work collaboratively with the ward managers, bleep holders and matrons to provide and develop high quality, safe and effective service
  • To work collaboratively with patients and service user representatives to develop the service in response to feedback received including local and national initiatives
  • Maintain a high standard of professional expertise to ensure safe and evidence based care is provided in specific area

Person Specification

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Degree level or equivalent experience as a registered midwife
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Mentorship/Practice Assessor qualification
  • Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics Qualification.

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • 2 completed years of post-registration experience in UK
  • Recent experience in an ward and intrapartum setting
  • Understanding complaints management

Desirable

  • Evidence of initiating and implementing quality Improvement Initiatives

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Previous experience in Antenatal ward setting
  • Ability to support & facilitate high risk and low risk care pathways
  • Effective time management for self and others
  • Communicating effectively with women, staff and other agencies
