Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Services division as a Matron for Centre for Urgent Care, Acute Oncology Service and The Royal Marsden Macmillan Hotline. These services are at the forefront of our clinical practice at RMH and provide world leading care to our patients. The successful candidate will be a key contributor and develop a team of highly skilled professionals. The post holder will work with clinical and operational leads to support and deliver an efficient and effective service which contributes to the achievement of national and local performance standards.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical leadership to the Acute Oncology, Centre for Urgent Care and The Royal Marsden Macmillan Hotline Teams, maintaining credibility through practice and providing a high quality and safe patient service, promoting a positive patient experience.

To develop strategies that synchronize all functions and activities within these units at Chelsea and Sutton, providing seamless Acute oncology and ambulatory care cover across both sites.

To manage AOS, CUC and RMMH budgets in a cost effective way. This will include making cost-savings and efficiency measures across all departments.

To lead, support and motivate professional and clerical staff to optimise their skills and potential utilising the agreed system of nursing care delivery.

To monitor clinical standards, evaluate patient care, ensuring practice is evidence based and that clinical guidelines and care pathways are developed and implemented.

To identify and deal effectively with poor practice and have oversight of the resource management within your areas, ensuring responsible use of resources, while promoting safety and care.

To be aware of current trends in nursing, both in the Trust, and the NHS, and be able to translate these into practice, for example the 6 Cs.

Through recruitment and retention, liaison with practice education, develop the skills of the Advanced Nurse Practitioners, CUC and RMMH teams.

To act as line manager and leader to staff within AOS, CUC and RMMH cross site supported by departmental Sisters and Charge Nurses or Leads.

To work with the AOS Consultant team to develop the AOS model throughout the Trust on both sites.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • First level registration
  • Oncology Qualification
  • First and higher Degree in relevant specialty
  • Charge nurse or equivalent
  • MSc in relevant specialty of willingness to undertake

Desirable

  • Recent experience at Matron level
  • Non-medical prescriber qualification
  • Advanced life support qualification
  • ENB 998 - Mentorship

Experience

Desirable

  • Significant relevant post-registration experience, including experienced at band 7 sister / charge nurse or equivalent
  • Clinical management experience
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Demonstrate experience in a range of cancer surgical nursing
  • Relevant formal teaching experience
