Job summary

Due to a recent promotion within the team, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full time band 5 Acute Dietitian to join our Epsom acute adult dietetic team on a permanent basis. This is an exciting chance to join our friendly, informal department which provides dietetic services to Epsom Hospital, Surrey and the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated dietitian to join our dynamic team. There will be opportunities for cross site working on our St Helier site.This is an excellent opportunity to gain a range of Dietetic experience in a supportive environment. You may be newly qualified or wish to consolidate your existing experience before moving on to a more specialised role.The successful candidate will provide a Dietetic service to acute medical and care of the elderly wards alongside gaining some experience in gastroenterology and stroke wards.We actively encourage personal development and you will have the opportunity to learn from colleagues working in specialist areas. The department currently provides training for placement 1, 2 and 3 students and you will participate in this as part of the team.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide advice to referred patients and carers, and clinicians. This will involve nutritional assessment; to include the calculation of nutritional requirements based on the interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry, clinical condition and other physical parameters.
  • To interpret received information concerning medical and social history to ensure advice is given in a person centred and culturally specific way.
  • To support the use of a nutrition-screening tool for inpatients to ensure patients are appropriately referred to the dietitian.
  • To be responsible for the discharge planning of patients going home on artificial nutritional support.
  • To identify patients who will need to be followed up in the community and make appropriate onward dietetic referrals.
  • To provide nutrition teaching sessions to other members of the multidisciplinary team and identified patient groups as required.
  • To work closely with dietetic team to provide an appropriate service to patients.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Relevant degree or postgraduate diploma in Dietetics
  • Demonstrable knowledge of common clinical conditions and dietetic interventions
  • HCPC registered
  • Knowledge and understanding of the differing needs of a variety of patients

Desirable

  • Member of the British Dietetic Association
  • Knowledge in the management of a variety of enteral feeding tubes

Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of dietetic service within a busy hospital
  • Understanding of the importance of effective multidisciplinary working
  • Experience of carrying out audit
