Job summary

We are looking for versatile, enthusiastic individual to join our Consultant Psychiatry team in the Community Learning Disability Team for North & Mid Hants. They will be responsible for providing clinical care, RC responsibility and treatment for a caseload of patients,as well as providing clinical leadership to the team.

This is an exciting time in for the Trust as we are on a journey to bring together all NHS community and mental health services provided in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, including services provided by Solent NHS Trust, Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, that delivers Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Hampshire., in what we call project Fusion. Main duties of the job

The consultant will have the support of a full MDT, Doctors in training, including higher trainees when the rotation allows. There are also approved placements within the team for doctors in Core Psychiatry training and FY training. They will work alongside another consultant colleague, covering the other half of the caseload, and colleagues in the other community teams, as well as the wider LD Service.

The post does not currently have an out of hours on-call attached to it. Cross cover and daytime cover is provided by a rota of the Community LD Consultants, Specialist Doctors and Higher trainees.

The post holder will work with another consultant colleague to provide medical input and leadership for patients with a learning disability and a specialist health need across Basingstoke and Winchester.

The post holder will provide reviews, input and advice for a caseload of approximately 45 patients, in a mixture of clinic reviews and home visits, as appropriate for the patients and their needs. The postholder is likely to review between 5-8 patients a week, though this will obviously vary based on need. The postholder can develop their clinic structure in association with the MDT to best suit the needs of the patient population.

The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council
  • To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post
  • MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
  • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 12 months of CCT at time of interview.
  • Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
