Job summary

This is a new part-time clinical service post which has been established to support the continued growth of the joint Thoracic Oncology services between Royal Papworth Hospital (RPH) and Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) - Addenbrooke's Hospital. The post involves care and management of patients being investigated with all forms of thoracic malignancy and will involve on-call responsibilities at RPH - Thoracic Oncology. The post will offer the opportunity to engage in research including recruiting patients to clinical trials, tissue banking and developing research methodology.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide care to patients being managed by thoracic oncology services as per their job plan. This will involve planning investigations, undertaking diagnostic procedures and formulating appropriate management plans for both routine and emergency management of patients.

Participate in MDT presentations, discussions and outcomes management.

Provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including endobronchial ultrasound, interventional bronchoscopy, thoracic ultrasound and local anaesthetic thoracoscopy.

Assist with recruiting patients to clinical trials, tissue banking and research methodology.

The post holder will also be encouraged to submit work / attend national / international meetings in Thoracic Oncology.

The post holder will participate in regular Thoracic Oncology on-call rota at RPH (1 week in 5).

To share responsibility for the training of specialty trainees, clinical fellows and medical students in conjunction with consultant colleagues, ensuring that College and local requirements are met.

Demonstrate a commitment to Trust mandatory training and continuing professional development.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent qualification

Desirable

  • MD or PhD

Experience

Essential

  • Completion of Certificate of Training (CCT) or equivalent in Respiratory Medicine
  • Significant, demonstrable clinical experience in Thoracic Oncology
  • Appropriate competencies in relevant cardiopulmonary procedures, including airway management, bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound and pleural ultrasound.

Desirable

  • Experience in local anaesthetic thoracoscopy
