A golden opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Medical Oncologist with special interest in Melanoma, Lower GI Cancers and Acute Oncology to join our Oncology team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

The post holder will work with site specific local and specialist MDTs for Skin Cancer at UHCW, AOS/CUP MDT at UHCW and lower GI (colorectal) cancer at SWUFT. The role is supported by a dedicated CNS team, and you will be expected to support the Acute Oncology Service and the Oncology ward in-patient care, as necessary on working days.

The Arden Cancer Centre is based at UHCW with offices and in-patient facilities all on one site. Our oncology ward has 30 beds which are shared amongst consultants. Our Cancer Clinical Trials Research Treatment Centre is fully equipped for clinical research and provides a separate research area to eable us to give trial chemotherapy to our patients. There is opportunity to develop your own research interests and collaborate with colleagues at Warwick and Coventry Universities.

Main duties of the job

The post is required to support the site-specialist consultant led service including facilities for inpatients and outpatients, a dedicated chemotherapy suite and radiotherapy facilities. The post holder will be expected to provide cross cover for MDTs and to liaise with the Acute Physicians/Emergency Department as part of supporting the Acute Nurse Led Oncology Service and when on-call.

Key duties also include driving forward Skin Cancer at UHCW/AOS/CUP at UHCW and lower GI (colorectal) cancer at SWUFT, with advances in systemic anticancer therapy and Clinical Trials. A keen interest in AOS is desirable and is negotiable.

Governance is a shared arrangement between UHCW and peripheral Cancer Units. Everyone is expected to participate in all aspects of clinical governance. The post holder will ensure that all services are provided in an effective and efficient manner and that the principles of risk management and clinical governance are maintained at all times.

The base job plan is for a 10PA contract (8.5DCC & 1.5SPA). Part-time and flexible working can be accommodated and secretarial support is provided. There is an expectation that up to 5 new patients will be seen per regular working week (up to 210 new patients per annum, based on 42 working weeks of routine work), in a 10PA job plan.
