Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and committed Consultant Chemical Pathologist to join the Clinical Biochemistry team at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is a full-time post.

The successful candidate will be based primarily at Wythenshawe Hospital with some commitments at Trafford General Hospital and Altrincham Hospital. Working alongside the team of Clinical Scientists you will offer support to general biochemistry clinical and laboratory services. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to provide clinical services to the Trust including managing lipid disorders in an outpatient setting at Trafford General and Altrincham General Hospitals. The Clinical Biochemistry Directorate consists of four satellite laboratories serving all the Hospitals in the MFT group - Altrincham General Hospital, Hospitals at the Oxford Road Campus (ORC comprises of Manchester Royal Infirmary, The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, The Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and Saint Mary's Hospital for Women and Children), North Manchester General Hospital, Trafford General Hospital, Withington Hospital, and Wythenshawe Hospital.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • MB ChB or equivalent
  • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • Applicants who are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants who are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
  • FRCPath or equivalent

Desirable

  • MD, PhD, or other higher degree

Teaching and Audit

  • Experience of Audit
