Job summary

St Margaret's Hospice Care has a fantastic opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our Advice Line team in either Taunton or Yeovil. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £32,413 per annum plus 18% unsocial hours enhancement.

Taking a variety of calls, you will triage each one to help provide essential care and symptom control to those suffering with life limiting illnesses within their own homes.

Main duties of the job

Based within the Advice Line team, you will play a key role in supporting end-of-life patients and their families in Somerset.

Calls received are from a variety of sources, including health care professionals, and can be for symptom control management, emotional or psychological and carer support. Supporting patients and their families, you will signpost them to appropriate services which are tailored to their needs.

You will work alongside the advice line team, community nurse specialists and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

The advice line shifts are 7am - 3pm, 9am - 5pm and 4pm midnight. Weekend and bank holiday working is essential to this post. There may be opportunity for remote working dependent on home location and IT set up, following induction and completion of the agreed probation period.

You will:

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • The role is primarily advice line based.
  • Bases include: Taunton St Margaret's Hospice, Yeovil St Margaret's Hospice & South Petherton hospital. Remote working (i.e. from own home) is supported but this must be proportionate to ensuring availability to attend site for regular team meetings/training. There are strict data protection policies in place that require individual WIFI connection and the need to maintain parameters of confidentiality whilst working remotely. The IT connection needs to be private/personal and not shared.
  • To support the 24/7 service by providing appropriate clinical and non-clinical palliative care advice and support for patients, carers and health care professionals, within the boundaries of the service and your competence, which includes the Out of Hours Advice line and 7 day working.
  • Shift patterns are either 7-3, 9-5, 16-24 with the expectation of flexibility to cover service need.
  • Internet needs to have the ability to support multi electronic health system, i.e. EMIS, RIO, Sider, Systemone, Mitel.
  • To provide advice and information to patients and carers with the aim of maintaining patients in their own homes and enabling them to enjoy maximum independence and optimum quality of life, in their preferred place of care.
  • Provide specialist palliative nursing care for patients that is patient centred, holistic and follows our core values and principles at St Margarets hospice care.
  • Provide appropriate support and advice for families and carers working alongside the inpatient and/or community multidisciplinary team.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • RN1 or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in palliative care/ Oncology/ life limiting conditions.

Desirable

  • Diploma/Degree in Health Studies.
  • Specialist Palliative Care qualification - ENB 931, ENB 285 or equivalent working towards Diploma / Degree in Palliative Care.
  • Teaching qualification.
  • Mentorship Course
  • Experience of working in a variety of healthcare settings, including the community.
  • Working in a call centre setting
