Locum Consultant Radiologist with an interest in Body and GIGU Interventional Imaging

This is a consultant post in Imaging, Clinical Support & Imaging Services Clinical Management Group (CSI CMG). The new post holder will join an established team of GIGU interventional radiologists.

The post holder will be expected to work closely in the team with the existing radiologists to support the continuing development of imaging within UHL as a whole. The post holder will join the existing Gastro intestinal and Genitourinary (GI GU) IR on call rota and provide GI GU interventional radiology services to the UHL. It is expected that the post holder will also provide GIGU diagnostic imaging.

The appointment will be whole time. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

PRINCIPAL ELEMENTS OF THE POST WILL BE:-

  • To undertake programmed GIGU imaging activities. Opportunities for development of the existing services will be supported where they reflect the needs of the local population and the development plans of the trust
  • To support Acute & Emergency imaging across UHL.
  • To review Inpatient imaging performed as an emergency within and out of hours
  • To lead/take part in many multi-disciplinary team meetings
  • To contribute to the training of the Specialist Registrars on the East Midland Deanery (South) radiology training scheme.
  • To supervise and train skill-mix radiographers, sonographers and non-medical staff in their present and anticipated roles.
  • To support and participate in audit, research, teaching and administration.
  • To take part interventional on call rota within UHL and assist in the provision of weekend radiological support for the Imaging and Medical Physics CBU.
  • To supportand oversee the placement of students in the department and act as a clinical teacher
  • To facilitate delivery of undergraduate teaching as directed by the departmentalundergraduate education lead

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • MB BS or Equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Fully Accredited for Higher Specialist Training or will be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date
  • FRCR or equivalent

Desirable

  • Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations
  • Higher degree eg MSc, MD or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Fully trained in general radiology with specialist training in GIGU and vascular intervention
  • Trained in acute cover in ED department
  • Clinical Knowledge and Expertise: Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems; demonstrates clear, logical thinking/analytical approach; understands evidence based practice
  • IT Skills commensurate with senior medical staff
  • Willingness to develop skills and experience in areas of interest

Desirable

  • Evidence of clinical or research commitment and a specialty interest in the field
  • Interventional skills for US and CT guided biopsies

  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues
