We're seeking a compassionate and driven Senior HR Professional to join our dynamic People Services Team within an NHS environment on a 3 month fixed term basis.

Please be advised that CSH operates under a hybrid work model. As part of this model, you will be required to work from a CSH location for a minimum of two days each week.

Main duties of the job

  • Partner with clinical divisions and other departments to ensure smooth people operations.
  • Utilise your knowledge of employment law and HR data to tackle complex projects like workforce planning, change management, and staff wellbeing initiatives.
  • Provide expert advice on day-to-day employee relations and contribute to developing and implementing strategic HR programs.
  • Collaborate effectively with operational leads and act as a bridge between teams within People Services (Recruitment, Workforce Systems, Health & Wellbeing, and Organisational Development).

Your Role as a People Partner

In this role, you'll be a trusted adviser and specialist who helps your Business Unit implement the People Strategy. You'll achieve this by:

Coaching and Influencing:

  • Guide senior leaders within your unit through the People Strategy using coaching, challenges, and influence.
  • Share your unit's insights with the People Services team to improve People plans, working practices, and future initiatives.

Driving Local Action:

  • Support the development and delivery of plans within your unit that align with broader People and Corporate strategies.
  • Analyse workforce data (employee relations, appraisals, training, etc.) to identify trends and patterns.

Strategic Planning:

  • Balance operational guidance with strategic planning to ensure the organisation has a future-proof workforce.
  • Contribute specialist knowledge to workforce transformation programmes.

Building a Positive Culture:

  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing to break down silos and create a more inclusive working environment.
  • Deputise for the Deputy Director of People when needed, sharing your expertise.

People Management:

  • Implement effective People Management practices to reduce legal risks.
  • Develop and maintain a balanced workforce plan for the organisation's future needs.
  • Partner with staff representatives to manage individual cases and plan for long-term workforce efficiency.

Business Partnership:

  • Understand your Business Unit's goals and contribute to decision-making.
  • Develop HR processes that support business objectives, organisational design, and resource plans.
  • Influence business thinking and drive positive workforce changes.

Employee Relations:

  • Provide expert advice on employee relations, employment law, and legal terms and conditions.
  • Ensure continuity of patient care (if applicable) during workforce changes.
  • Equip line managers with the skills and knowledge to handle employee relations matters effectively.

Leadership Development:

  • Support the development of leadership skills in line managers.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, staff engagement, and responsible decision-making.

Change Management:

  • Lead or participate in organisational change projects, ensuring alignment with policies and legislation.
  • Manage workforce risks and use data to drive positive change.

Employee Voice:

  • Promote a culture where employees feel empowered to contribute and take ownership.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience as a full HR Generalist.
  • Recent (within the last 6 months) NHS Experience.
  • Proven track record of implementing and managing workforce change/transformation programmes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in employee relations, leadership development, and organisational change.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation.
  • Familiarity with a consultancy approach and contracting models.
  • Strong understanding of the strategic HR and organisational development (OD) context.
  • Knowledge of the national NHS agenda and its workforce implications.
  • Proficient in the ESR system, including its issues, costs, benefits, and future direction.
  • Experience fostering employee engagement during change initiatives.
  • Experience working in a trade unionised environment.

Qualifications

Essential

  • University degree or demonstrably equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • A postgraduate diploma in Human Resource Management (HRM) or a comparable qualification relevant to human resources.
  • Associate membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
  • Proof of ongoing professional development (CPD) to show you stay up-to-date in the HR field.
