A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Consultant with an interest in Coronary Intervention to join our Cardiology team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. The successful post holder will assist in the provision of a high-quality Cardiology service to the population of Coventry and Warwickshire, and participate in the on-call rota for Interventional Cardiology.

Our Cardiology team have expanded rapidly and is one of the busiest centres in the West Midlands region. A 24-hour PCI service has been in place since 2008. Our Cardiac Investigations team provide extensive non-invasive facilities for the hospital including stress echo, exercise treadmill testing, transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitoring, pacemaker & decide clinics.

Main duties of the job

Main duties and responsibilities include:

  • Participation in delivery of the Percutaneous Coronary Intervention service at University Hospital.
  • The development of appropriate outcome measures to assess the effectiveness of the Cardiology service provided at University Hospital.
  • Liaising closely with surgical colleagues in a selection of cases and post operative care.
  • Participate in the affairs of the Cardiac Department and the specialty of Cardiology.
  • Supervising, teaching and training junior medical staff, attached nursing staff and medical technical officers.
  • The participation in the week-long consultant on-call for the ward rota, providing input for new cardiac admissions and review of cardiology patients on the cardiac and acute admission wards.
