Job summary

The Respiratory Physiology Service at Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust is a large Service, located at both City & Sandwell Hospitals

This is a high quality and varied promotional opportunity within Respiratory Physiology for a practitioner with demonstrable experience in order to show Band 6 entry level of competence in Respiratory Physiology, Sleep and Ventilation, or a first post opportunity for a newly or about to be, qualified Clinical Scientist (Respiratory and Sleep Sciences).

Main duties of the job

You will provide the full range of respiratory diagnostics, oxygen assessment and a large Sleep & Ventilation Service currently caring for over 5000 patients on either CPAP or NIV.

As well as routine respiratory diagnostics, you should also have experience of performing advanced diagnostic procedures as well as therapeutic interventions in a sleep and ventilation service.

You should have the Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) BSc in Healthcare Science (Cardiovascular & Respiratory and Sleep Science) or Certified Equivalence, or BSc in Clinical Physiology (Respiratory), or MSc in Healthcare Science (Respiratory and Sleep Sciences) and be on, or in the process of applying for, the RCCP or AHCS Accredited Registers OR qualifications and experience which would enable successful application for inclusion on the RCCP or AHCS Accredited Registers, or on the HCPC Statutory Register. You should be able to demonstrate evidence for continuing professional development.

You will require excellent verbal and written communication skills and organisational skills, work well both individually and within a team environment, and be computer literate.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience in order to show Band 6 entry level of competence in Respiratory Physiology, Sleep and Ventilation with documented evidence of post basic training and competence in complex and specialised investigations, therapies and techniques in respiratory physiology, sleep diagnostics & therapeutics. Evidence to be provided by way of professional portfolio/KSF competencies/Competency based assessments.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Research Techniques and Methodology
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assessment and Evaluation Methodologies
  • Active participation in regional professional activities

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology (Respiratory) or the Practitioner Training Programme BSc in Healthcare Science (Cardiovascular & Respiratory and Sleep Science) and be on, or in the process of applying for, the AHCS Accredited Register, qualification and experience which would enable successful application for inclusion on AHCS Accredited Register
