The Emergency Department at Royal Bolton Hospital has a fantastic reputation for nurturing staff and ensuring they feel supported. This fixed term post (6-12 months) is designed for a Tier 3 Clinical Fellow to work in Bolton Emergency Department on a fixed term basis. Post holders are supported to attend weekly departmental training.

Please note that Clinical Fellows are paid on a local pay scale that mirrors Doctors in Training pay scales. Basic salary offered for this role is fixed at £43,923and will not be uplifted beyond that salary point. Where the role requires out of hours working, evening, weekend and on call enhancements will be added according to a work schedule. It is Trust practice that we offer a set salary for this role and variations will not be considered.

Main duties of the job

  • Able to see cases in majors, resus, paeds and minors with input from a senior for some cases. Knows when to ask for advice but independently cares for patients with less complex conditions.
  • Able to perform the following procedures with a senior on the shop floor to assist if needed
    • Shoulder dislocation reduction
    • Fascia-iliaca block
    • Suturing simple wounds, basic wound care, local anaesthetic
    • Anterior nasal packing
    • IV/IO access, ABGs, NG tubes, urinary catheters
    • Basic airway manoeuvres and oxygen delivery

The Emergency Department at Royal Bolton Hospital has a fantastic reputation for nurturing staff and ensuring they feel supported. This post will see Clinical Fellows working in the Majors, Minors, and Paediatric areas of the department supported where necessary by a dedicated senior medical workforce. There will also be opportunities to work within the Urgent Treatment Centre.

All candidates must have completed their foundation training and have previous experience working in Emergency Medicine.

The post holder will be expected to change their shifts occasionally if there are major staffing issues (to include covering nights) but this will occur only after you have been consulted.

The post holder will be allowed to take weekend leave but no more than 1 weekend in 6 weeks (and will be encouraged to swap rather than take as leave). Bank Holiday Annual Leave will require discussion with the consultant coordinating the rota.

Shifts would include:

  • 0800-1800
  • 1400-2300
  • 1800-0200
  • 2200-0815

  • NHS Experience
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practice
  • 2 years post FY2 experience
  • Operates independently for simple cases

Desirable

  • Experience of working in Emergency Medicine
  • ALS / APLS
