We are looking for a Registered Paediatric Nurse to join our friendly team, either on a full-time (37.5 hrs) or part-time (min 23 hrs) basis. Our ward has a small team of people who work closely together, promoting our Trust's values - kindness, integrity, teamwork and equality.
Woodlands paediatric ward has 16 beds with an additional clinical assessment unit for general medical and surgical paediatric patients as well as day admissions. We also have a high dependency cubicle on the ward for very unwell children and we work very closely with Leeds Children's Hospital.

Internal staff are able to apply for a rotational Band 6 development role which allows a Band 5 to gain management experience for a fixed term of 12 months.
Adult trained nurses with 2 years' paediatrics experience are welcome to apply and are able to attend EPALS
All nurses have the opportunity to rotate between ward, SCBU and A & E to gain more experience
Levels 1 and 2 Critical Care are offered to nurses who wish to develop their professional skills
All staff have access to a plethora of free wellbeing and support programmes

Unfortunately we are unable to offer Paediatric OSCE training to Nurses registered overseas, therefore having an NMC PIN is an essential requirement of this role.
Main duties of the job
You will provide exceptional nursing care while working alongside your peers. You must be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and experience required for this position and have a keen interest in your ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice.
We provide all new starters with a robust induction programme and we have a part time designated Practice Development Nurse on hand to help provide 1 -1 teaching and support in identifying your professional development needs.
Main duties
- To provide child centred, evidence based care on Woodlands Ward, SCBU, Paediatric Outpatients and elsewhere in the Trust as appropriate.
- To implement and evaluate family centred care and to be responsible for the delivery of care.
- To take delegated responsibility for patients working as part of a team ensuring the smooth operational running of the Unit.
- Mentoring pre-registration students.
- Act as Nurse in Charge of the shift as required

Job responsibilities
Main responsibilities
- To carry out the assessment of children, identifying nursing problems and needs, in partnership with their family / carer.
- To assess risks to children, be able to recognise vulnerable children and respond in accordance with the Trust policy, seeking support from senior staff as appropriate.
- Attend the delivery of an infant with complex needs and safely transport to SCBU with supervision if required
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised programmes of care support by current research based practice in partnership with the family and in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team with supervision / guidance if required
- To give skilled care, demonstrating technical and practical competency with patient observations, equipment management, medication and administration of agreed invasive tests and / or procedures.
- Offer support and guidance to less experienced colleagues in the clinical area
- Prioritise and manage a defined work load efficiently
- Safely administer intravenous drugs and medicines, calculates, prepares and administers complex intravenous infusions according to the unit guidelines
- Safely use all relevant specialised Paediatric equipment in the clinical area
- Assess and provide educational and information needs for infants, children and families.
- Demonstrates an ability to respond appropriately in an emergency situation
- Demonstrates an ability to deliver care to the dying baby and responds appropriately when dealing with the parents and family under the guidance of a senior colleague if required
- Facilitate the discharge and transfer of children in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and in partnership with the parents
- Hold the resuscitation bleep and Controlled Drugs Keys
- Acts as an advocate for babies and their families
- Deliver programmes of care that are based on current research based practice
