Job summary

The Trust is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the the Hull and East Riding Early Intervention in Psychosis (PSYPHER) Team, who work with people aged between 14 and 65, who are experiencing their first episode of psychosis or might be at risk of developing psychosis.

The Hull and East Riding Team works according to the New Ways of Working Model, with the Consultant providing consultation to care coordinators. The team has a full complement of Care Co-ordinators, Social Workers and Clinical Support Nurses. The team has an active in-house training programme and is increasingly family orientated in its overall approach to complement individual support, relapse prevention and other Therapies. Most of the service delivery takes place in the person's home or within designated bases. The service is actively involved in a number of research projects and works closely with the Trust's Research Department and the University of Hull.

Main duties of the job

The team accepts approximately 120 referrals per year from Hull and currently carries a caseload for the Hull areas of approximately 150. For the East Riding, the approximate number of referral per year is 60 and carries a caseload of around 70.

Together with colleagues in the multidisciplinary team, you will offer medical leadership, assessment and management of patients on the community caseload and contribute to the on call rota for the wider General Adult Service.

Job responsibilities

As a consultant working in the PSYPHER Team, you will have responsibility for the provision of safe and effective care and treatment. You will share the vision of integrated and multi-disciplinary working and actively engage in the development of the service through research and support.

The post holder would be expected to be approved as a Responsible Clinician or be willing to undertake training to obtain Section 12(2) MHA and will be expected to renew this approval according to agreed procedures.

The ability to commute within the Trusts geographical area with access to the appropriate means of transport is essential.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management

Eligibility

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

Desirable

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others

Desirable

  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service

ACADEMIC SKILLS & LIFELONG LEARNING

Essential

  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
  • Ability to work in and lead team
  • Able to use and appraise clinical evidence.

Desirable

  • Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
  • Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation.
  • Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
