JOB OVERVIEW:

We have a great opportunity for the right candidate to be appointed to the role of Locum Consultant in Anaesthetics with a general interest. The Department of Anaesthetics is a friendly and supportive one. We have previously achieved ACSA accreditation from the Royal College of Anaesthetists, welcome innovation and will support change where it improves care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

The candidate will be expected to work at both the Epsom and St Helier sites. The job plan will cover 10 Programmed Activities including 1 SPA. The duties of the post will be to provide cover for operating theatre sessions and labour ward. Participation in the 1:12 consultant on-call rota at the St Helier site will be expected. The successful candidate must be dedicated to the pursuit of excellence, always placing the patient first

Job responsibilities

The Epsom & St Helier Anaesthetic department is aligned with the St George's Hospital teaching programme for medical students and the SW Thames School of Anaesthesia training programme. We have ACSA accreditation, currently under review. There is a well-established simulation teaching programme which may give opportunities for suitably qualified applicants. We score highly each year in the national hip fracture database report and are one of the busiest 5 units in London. Our National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (NELA) pathway and patient outcomes score as excellent.

Person Specification

Qalifications

Essential

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC
  • At least seven years Anaesthetic experience at senior level
  • FRCA or equivalent

Desirable

  • CCT/CESR in Anaesthesia or eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview
  • EPALS / APLS training

Experience

Essential

  • Experience commensurate with award of the CCT/CESR in Anaesthesia
  • Broad range of experience in delivering Anaesthesia for elective and emergency surgery for patients of all ages

Desirable

  • Advanced airway management skills
