Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic & self-motivated senior research nurse to coordinate & manage our small but growing commercial epilepsy clinical trials portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity to join a diverse multidisciplinary research team comprising epilepsy Consultants, clinical research fellows, clinical nurses, & other allied Health & research professionals. You will work closely with the Senior Clinical Project Manager to ensure the efficient set up & timely delivery of trials to target & alongside clinical & nursing staff to ensure the continued care & support for patients recruited to epilepsy clinical trials. As the research delivery team is still small, your main responsibility will be ensuring the recruitment of patients, completion of trial related activities & reliable data collection. You will be required to plan & manage your own workload effectively. A proactive, flexible & solution orientated approach is essential.

Main duties of the job

As Senior Research Nurse you will play a key role in the successfully delivery of our commercial clinical research epilepsy portfolio. You will provide specialist skills & knowledge to coordinate & manage the commercial epilepsy clinical trials portfolio & be responsible for the production of high quality research. Since we are still a small research delivery team, your work will be focused on recruitment of patients, completion of trial related activities, & reliable data collection as per protocol requirements in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Research Governance & local Trust policies for research.

You will work alongside, & be supported by a hardworking & motivated team of Epilepsy Consultants, clinical nurses & a Senior Clinical Project Manager. Some knowledge of epilepsy is useful but not essential. The role does not involve any line management responsibilities currently but you will manage a team of research nurses as the research delivery team expands.

The ability to work autonomously but in collaboration with others is essential. Strong communication & organisational skills are also essential. A flexible proactive working approach is a key element to this role. The post is a fixed term 12 month contract. The post is renewable contingent on the ongoing delivery of the commercial clinical trials portfolio to time & target.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse Part 1, 2, 12
  • ENB 998 or professionally recognised equivalent teaching course.
  • Completed/working towards degree in the speciality or related field

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 4 years post registration nursing experience
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working in Clinical Trials
  • Experience of formal/ informal teaching of patients and staff
  • Experience of phlebotomy, cannulation and management of central lines

Desirable

  • Experience of working with epilepsy patients
  • Experience working as a preceptor/facilitator

Skills and Abilities
