Job summary

We are looking for a full-time advanced nurse practitioner with prescribing and clinical skills. This is a permanent post to expand our large clinical team.

The successful applicant will be a caring, compassionate and committed nurse who can demonstrate safe, competent, clinical decision-making for patients in general practice.

They will work within a large clinical team to meet the needs of patients, support the delivery of policy and procedures and provide support to colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will see, diagnose and treat patients in the surgery and on home visits. They will conduct both face to face consultations and telephone consultations.

They will prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness in accordance with evidence-based practice. They will support patients to adopt healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care.

About us

We are a large (15000+ patients) practice with a large multi-disciplinary clinical team and a fantastic, supportive admin team. The practice is situated in a medium-sized town and covers several villages on the outskirts of the town.

We have 4 GP partners and 3 salaried GPs and we provide training to medical students, F2 doctors and GP registrars.

Although very busy, it is an incredibly friendly place to work and the teams often socialise together.

Clinical leadership is provided to each clinical group by a nominated partner and meetings are held on a regular basis along with clinical discussions and training.

The successful post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • An autonomous consultor
  • 12.5 - minute consultations (subject to change)
  • Share of home visits.
  • Able to manage acute presentations
  • Able to manage chronic conditions
  • Able to order appropriate investigations (bloods/radiology).
  • Able to refer appropriately to secondary care or organise emergency admissions.
  • Share of admin: clinical letters which require actioning/filing.
  • Able to file pathology results
  • Able to see all age groups
  • No restrictions on prescribing.
  • Able to see pregnant women in regards non pregnancy related issues.
  • Able to deal with mental health presentations

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Qualified independent prescriber
  • Meets NMC revalidation requirements

Desirable

  • Experience of general practice
  • Women's health
  • Mental health
