Job summary

HC-One Scotland is developing a Specialist Dementia Care Community (SDCC) at Darnley Court care home. Darnley Court has provided care for people living with dementia for many years but following considerable investment in environmental layout and design, workforce and L&D in Carmichael community, we have exciting new opportunities available for those passionate about supporting people who are emotionally distressed by their dementia and require a specialist service to ensure their needs can be met appropriately. As an SDCC, Carmichael will become a therapeutic care setting that demonstrates that quality of care and quality of life are of equal significance. It will provide a bespoke living environment embracing space and calming de-escalation rooms, along with enhanced staffing and specialist training for Colleagues in positive approaches to behaviour, psychosocial therapies, de-escalation interventions and safe restrictive practices. The therapeutic ambition will be that people will be understood as having needs to be met, rather than being defined by their condition.

Main duties of the job

Essential Skills & Abilities Evidence of delivering person-centred care and care for people with dementia who present with complex needs, distress, and behaviours that challenge. Evidence of sharing knowledge and delivering best practice. Evidence of using critical reflective practice. Collaborative and MDT working. Evidence of continued professional development Experience of providing general nursing and bio-psychosocial interventions. Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner. Desirable: Knowledge of relevant current dementia policies and guidance Experience and Knowledge Essential: Post-registration clinical experience of working with people with dementia. Experience of completing holistic nursing assessments Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner Desirable: Experience of providing positive behaviour support and psychosocial interventions. Experience of auditing/evaluating clinical practice Personal Effectiveness Essential: Good communication skills, flexibility, and creativity. Ability to operate effectively within a constantly developing relationship with key stakeholders and associated agencies. Ability to build constructive relationships with warmth and empathy. Demonstrates commitment to quality of care.
