Job summary

We are recruiting for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to be part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting the leadership and delivery of the newly developed Eating Disorder Day Service based at St George's Hospital, Stafford.You will be responsible for co-ordinating the referrals, assessments and care planning process as well as delivering a range of evidence based therapeutic, social support activities, psycho educational groups, food related rehabilitation tasks, and relapse prevention focussed work.There is also an expectation for whole service delivery across the day service, inpatient ward and, where appropriate, community settings.

Main duties of the job

Clinical

o To carry out initial assessments for the day service and the inpatient ward, which will include gathering complex information from service-users, carers and communicating this to members of the multi-disciplinary team. This may include the use of specialist standardised assessment tools, verbal and non-verbal communication skills and observation of the client and their environment. This may involve completion of risk assessment and other documentation.

Professional

o To maintain and demonstrate an up-to-date knowledge of national guidelines, standards, legislation and professional developments in current methods in the treatment of client's conditions within the specialism.

o To use an appropriate range of teaching media to assist with clinical support, supervision and teaching of other staff and clients, students, visitors, work experience placements and other disciplines where appropriate.

Leadership and Management

o To ensure the correct procedures are carried out regarding stock control and the sale of equipment or goods and the handling of money, where relevant, using agreed protocols.

o To demonstrate leadership style by ensuring professional standards are maintained in all areas of clinical, organisational and project work.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist.
  • Member of professional body.
  • HCPC registered.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of delivering OT interventions through groups and individual work in a relevant setting eg ward, community, patient's home.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with other disciplines.

Desirable

  • Experience of working within an eating disorder service.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Essential

  • Knowledge and understanding of the unique skills that OT offers to service users, carers and relatives in this setting.
  • Knowledge of OT assessments.
  • Knowledge of formulating evidence based therapy plans that encourage services users to develop a range of life skills.
  • Ability to form clear clinical treatment plans based on best practice in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team and document these clearly and appropriately.

Personal Attributes

Essential

  • Demonstrate an understanding of OT code of conduct and OT core skills.
  • Ability to deal appropriately with unforeseen circumstances in highly emotional environments.
  • Commitment to flexible working hours across evenings, and weekends in line with service need.
