We are recruiting for a Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. This post is an important part of our ongoing development of medical services at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, offering the successful applicant the opportunity to work closely with the existing Diabetes and Endocrinology physicians to provide a high standard of care across the Trust. We are seeking a consultant with enthusiasm, commitment, and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will carry outward duties in GIM and be part of the diabetes outreach team (DOT), as well as holding clinics in diabetes, endocrinology in the hospital but also possibly community settings.
The Consultant will work alongside the current consultant team of 11 in Diabetes and Endocrinology and provide diabetes and endocrine services at Lister Hospital.
In addition, the post-holder will participate in the acute medical emergency rotas, which will operate on a 1:12-14 basis for weekends and approximately 1:25 weekdays though this is currently under review.

Qualifications
Essential
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
- College Membership (MRCP) or qualification of an equivalent level
- Advanced Life Support or demonstration of ability to achieve ALS immediately upon appointment

- Postgraduate academic degree

- Broad range of experience in Diabetes and Endocrinology and experience of Acute General Medicine
- Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues

- Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
- Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidencebased practice and clinical quality improvement initiatives
