Job summary

CT1 - ST6+ (x1 Clinical Fellow: Anaesthesia and Education & x1 Clinical Fellow: Anaesthesia and Quality Improvement)

Clinical Fellow: Anaesthesia and Education: You will be expected to contribute to the oversight, delivery, and quality assurance of current departmental and multidisciplinary training programs such as the South Tees Anaesthetic New Starters Course. In addition, there are several opportunities for further training projects which you would be encouraged to develop, dependent on your individual interest. The anaesthetic department has dedicated teaching and training facilities including high fidelity simulation and videoconferencing. You will be provided with a supportive consultant educational supervisor.

Clinical Fellow: Anaesthesia and Quality Improvement: You will be expected to contribute to departmental involvement in national quality improvement projects such as NELA and PQUIP. In addition, you will be supported in completing departmental quality improvement activities dependant on personal interest and encouraged to present these in an appropriate national forum. You will be provided with a supportive educational supervisor.

Main duties of the job

Clinical commitment

There is a 50% clinical service commitment inclusive of a 1 in 4, weekend daytime anaesthetic on call cover at Friarage Hospital, Northallerton. This will require independent practice with distant supervision and the ability to arrange and provide safe inter hospital transfer of unwell patients. Anaesthetic cover at Friarage Hospital provides emergency airway, resuscitation and transfer support for the acute medical unit and inpatient care only. Further out of hours on-call in support of The James Cook University Hospital anaesthesia rota tiers may be required to a maximum overall on-call frequency of 1:8. There is a flexible service commitment to daytime elective and emergency anaesthesia delivery at The James Cook University Hospital with opportunity to tailor sessions to individual interests. All clinical activity will be matched to the fellow's level of training and will include appropriate consultant clinical supervision. A proportion of this work will be service provision, providing solo cover for elective anaesthetic lists (with local consultant supervision).

The South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Anaesthetic department is offering a two Clinical Fellow posts based within the anaesthetic department from August 2023. These will be for an initial period of six months. These posts are ideal for doctors who have completed core anaesthetic training and who wish to broaden their experience and develop their curriculum vitae before commencing specialist training. There will be the opportunity to work towards the learning outcomes required by Stage 1 of the 2021 Curriculum. There is a 50% time-based commitment to clinical work and 50% time allocated to project work.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. GMC Registration (including current license to practice). Evidence of completion of RCoA core competencies or equivalent by commencement date. This includes completion of Royal College of Anaesthetist's "Initial Assessment of Competence" and "Initial Assessment of Competence in Obstetric Anaesthesia". ALS or equivalent. Transfer training course or equivalent training course or equivalent

Desirable

  • Components of FRCA Primary examination

Experience

  • Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems or equivalent
