Welfare Support Worker
Term-time 39 weeks pa
William
Morris School, part of Novalis Trust, is a charity that supports children with neurodevelopmental
difficulties. The school is one of the few educational establishments in the
country to adopt a truly trauma-informed and trauma-responsive approach to
care, therapy and education.
We are
currently seeking dedicated term-time only welfare staff to work in our small
39-week boarding provision, due to open in September 2024.
Main duties of the job
Hours:
39 weeks pa, term-time only working a two-week fixed rota which is on average
40 hours per week & two sleep-ins. This will include working every other
weekend.
You will be establishing key support
relationships with pupils in their boarding provision while providing them with
the care, guidance and support they need to thrive. We offer a supportive
environment with a fixed two-week rota.

In relation to each pupil
for whom you are a key worker, your responsibilities include:

Helping encourage a culture of learning, creativity
and develop a family community with the house and wider boarding community;

acting
as a positive role model;

assessing
their needs;

supporting
them to maintain links with their families and local community, and promoting
continued contact;

following
guidelines in support of positive behaviour;
-
providing
emotional support;
-
creating
a safe and happy environment in which to live;
-
helping them
to access education, health and leisure services;
-
providing
advice on independent living for older pupils;
-
contributing
to the placement planning and recording systems for them;
-
collating
information required for their Placement Planning Meetings and other relevant
reviews;
-
planning
and recording key worker sessions;
-
ensuring
that records and their files / electronic record are up to date and well
organised;
-
making
sure that their Placement Plan is kept up to date by liaising with Placement
Planning Social Worker;

ensuring
the observance of school uniform/dress code, maintaining the excellent
presentation and appearance of the boarding pupils
-
taking a
regular interest in their health needs; and where necessary supporting
appointments with the dentist, doctors and opticians;
-
making
sure they have adequate clothing and ensuring they are clean and presentable;
-
knowing
their file, background and family details, their interests and hobbies;
-
encouraging
them to join and take part in clubs etc.

supporting them to express their views at various meetings
such as the school and house meetings;-
supporting and encouraging them to take part in the Pupil surveys.

Experience
Essential
- Some experience of working with people in a person-centred way is desirable but not essential
- An ability to adapt your approach to individual needs and come up with creative solutions to overcome challenges will also help
