Job summary

The practice is looking for a Receptionist to work in a friendly busy surgery. The main purpose of the post is to provide a point of contact for patients and to act as a focal point of communication between doctors and other medical staff.

Main duties of the job

Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1: Reception duties: Greet patients and Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from patients and other visitors - Monitor flow of patients ensuring the appointment system accurately reflects the arrival of patients . Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, ensuring procedures are completed correctly - Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts keeping records of such payments up to date - Action requests for ambulance transportation and enter details on the computer - Ensure reception and waiting areas are kept neat and tidy 2: Repeat prescribing system: Receive patients requests for prescriptions whether in writing, e-mail or in person - Deal with requests from patients to collect prescriptions and medication - - 3: Appointment system: Ensure total familiarity with all appointment systems including regular and incidental variations - Book appointments and recalls ensuring sufficient information is recorded to retrieve medical record - Monitor effectiveness of the system and report any problems or variations 4: Telephone system: Receive and make calls as required answering any queries that arise - Divert calls and take messages as appropriate ensuring accuracy 5: Start and end of day procedures Open up premises at the start of the day: make all the necessary preparations to receive patients.
