Main duties of the job
An exciting
opportunity has arisen for an experienced Physiotherapist with an excellent
grounding in exercise therapy, a passion for working in Mental Health services
and interest the provision of physiotherapy for all.
The Physiotherapist
would primarily work with the inpatient MDT in Redditch, Bromsgrove and
Worcester with an occasional requirement to support the Hereford team for any
urgent assessments.
The post involves working creatively to
provide individual physiotherapy and promote the use of physical exercise to
facilitate mental health recovery. Previous experience in mental health is
desirable.

Job responsibilities
The Role includes undertaking physiotherapeutic
assessments and treatment of patients who have been admitted to hospital due to
their mental health needs and they are identified to have additional physical
health issues which may have a highly complex presentation.
The physiotherapist will assess to determine
clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy and physical exercise interventions
needed, and will maintain patient MDT records
following this
The post holder will need to work flexibly and in
conjunction with the therapies team to plan, deliver and evaluate patients in
partnership with the wider MDT.
There will be an expectation for the
Physiotherapist to assist the Band 6 Occupational Therapists to lead the
planning, delivery and evaluation of all elements of the rehabilitation
programme including use of gym equipment, ward based exercise programmes,
groups, accessing the community and home assessment visits.
The Physiotherapist will work autonomously,
accepting responsibility for a caseload of patients with complex mental health
and physical health needs across the in patient mental health wards within
Worcestershire.

The post holder will communicate effectively with
patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential and ensure
understanding of their condition, gain informed consent and have the ability to
assess capacity and work within a legal framework with patients who lack the
capacity to consent to treatment.
The Physiotherapist will undertake the
comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of patients including those with a
highly complex presentation, using investigative and analytical skills.
Individualised management and treatment plans will
be developed using clinical reasoning and utilising a wide range of treatment
skills and options to deliver specialised programmes of care.
The post holder will demonstrate a sound
understanding of clinical governance and risk management and apply this to
working with patients who may have high levels of risk associated with their
mental health presentation.
There would be an emphasis on undertaking ongoing evaluation of
Physiotherapy intervention, a commitment to CPD and peer supervision and an
expectation to support junior staff and students in their learning and
development.

- Previous NHS experience
- A minimum of 2 years post grad experience
Qualifications

- HCPC Registration
- Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent

- In addition to experience, all Qualified roles will be required to provide evidence of:
