Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the expanding paediatric physiotherapy team at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. This is a band 6 post however grading may be adjusted according to previous experience and skills. We would therefore encourage qualified therapists, with previous experience with adults or paediatrics at least at band 5 level, with a passion for working in paediatrics to apply for this post.

Main duties of the job

Our team has a strong commitment to CPD and evidence-based practice. As such, the successful applicant will receive regular supervision and teaching to enable them to further their knowledge and skills in all the varied aspects of this post. The trust is committed to staff development and funding can be applied for to support with training and development. In addition, there is a wide variety of specialist knowledge and skills within the paediatric physiotherapy team and the post-holder will be encouraged to make use of this fantastic resource and learn from other members of the team. The post-holder will also be encouraged to develop their own skills and experience as a band 6 through participating in audits, service development projects and the supervision of students.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital Trust in the county of Kent.

The Trust provides a full range of general hospital services and some areas of specialist complex care to around 760,000 people living in the south part of West Kent and the north part of East Sussex.

Job responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please [email protected] this is problematic)and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Physiotherapy Degree or equivalent Qualification
  • HCPC registration - License to practice
  • Evidence of relevant post graduate courses/CPD

Desirable

  • Member of the relevant clinical interest groups
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Experience

Essential

  • Post graduate experience of working with children, parents and carers
  • Writing clinical notes and reports
  • Staff supervision, line management, appraisal and PDP planning
  • Teaching other professionals/parents

Desirable

  • Experience of Orthotics management.
  • Experience of working in the community including schools and further education environments
  • Serial casting and splinting

Knowledge

Essential

  • Established clinical knowledge in paediatrics and management of paediatric presentations which could include: Orthopaedic conditions and surgery

Desirable

  • Knowledge on paediatric respiratory conditions, Cystic Fibrosis, Ponseti treatment
