Job summary

The role is for a substantive consultant in O&G with special interest in Gynae Oncology.This post is to complement the current team of consultants based in Withybush General Hospital, you will join colleagues in a very dynamic and forward looking unit.Office accommodation, secretarial support and full IT facilities including access to intranet and internet will be provided.This post comes during a period of Health Board-wide service reviews, including a comprehensive reconfiguration of services for the Women and Childs Health Directorate in West Wales. The aim is to provide a spectrum of flexible and responsive services for the Women's and Child Health Directorate across the Health Board, encompassing:o Development of a comprehensive service across the Health Boardo Enhancement of early pregnancy and antenatal day assessment units serviceso Enhancement of ambulatory gynaecology and minimal access services.o Effective leadership to multidisciplinary staff members of the unit with specific reference to labour ward.o Development of teaching, training and research within the Organisation

Main duties of the job

Clinical

  • To share the responsibility for the acute care of Obstetrics and Gynaecology during weekdays and out of hours.
  • To support the development and delivery of a new services in hospital and in the community.
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements within the parameters of the Division's and Health Board's agreed objectives.
  • To develop and deliver a comprehensive service in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  • To Participate in MDT and see women in Rapid Access Clinic.
  • Teaching/Training (as agreed with Clinical Lead/Hospital Director/AMD/MD)
  • To provide conditions for improved training opportunities.
  • To participate in the undergraduate teaching programme.
  • To assist and participate with the development of postgraduate training for F1s, F2s, STs, Speciality Doctors and other staff as appropriate.
  • Where agreed, to act as Educational Supervisor to junior and middle grade medical staff.
  • Audit (as agreed with Clinical Lead/Hospital Director/AMD/MD)
  • To promote evidence-based clinical practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • On Specialist Register/SpR due to obtain relevant CCT/CESR(CP) within 6 months of interview
  • MRCOG

Desirable

  • ATSM in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Additional qualifications
  • ATSM in Oncology
  • ATSM in Hyseroscopy

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Broad based experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
  • Competence in speciality of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Safe and effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience of communicating bad news
  • Meet the requirement of the GMC's "Good Medical Practice"

Desirable

  • Experience of NHS Consultant work
  • Wider experience, research and training in providing sub specialty service.
  • Experience in Laparoscopic Surgery
  • Experience in Gynae oncology

Clinical Governance

Essential

  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice
  • Comprehension of core philosophy and building blocks of Clinical Governance

Desirable

  • Knowledge of risk management

Research

Essential

  • Experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evidence so as to improve clinical outcomes

  • Willingness to teach all grades of professional multidisciplinary staff
