Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for four substantive consultant posts in General Anaesthesia. The postholders must be medically qualified, maintain GMC specialist registration, and hold a license to practice.

We are keen to attract motivated, hard-working colleagues who share our vision to maintain a cohesive department focused on excellent patient care and outstanding multidisciplinary teamwork. The posts are most suitable for anaesthetists who have recently completed their specialist training and have some experience working in a busy teaching hospital. There will be several opportunities for candidates with an interest in peri-operative medicine, shared decision-making, research, quality improvement, teaching and simulation, theatre productivity, and leadership.

Main duties of the job

The newly appointed consultants would be expected to work across all general clinical areas at Guy's and St Thomas' sites, as well as the high-volume, low-complexity hub at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup.

The job entails 10 PAs per week for a whole-time contract, comprising 8 DCC, 1.5 SPA, and 0.5 PA for on-calls.

Clinical activities will include elective theatre work and preoperative assessment clinics. Clinical work will be over 5 days (Monday to Friday) and includes 1 in 10 weeks of weekend work.

On-call emergency cover will be provided for Guy's site, encompassing thoracic, difficult airway, and renal transplant anaesthesia, unless the candidate's specialist interests are more suitable for the St Thomas' site (e.g., vascular, GI).

This is an outline program, and you will be expected to discuss and agree upon a detailed job plan, including your personal and professional objectives, with your Clinical Leads before commencing the post
