Oxford Centre for Respiratory Medicine Ward Osler Respiratory Unit 5C/D
Oxford Centre for Respiratory Medicine( Osler Respiratory Unit ) based in John Radcliffe Hospital currently has positions available for Band 5 staff nurses who are interested in further developing their respiratory skills.
The in-patient ward clients include those requiring treatment for COPD, Asthma, CF/Bronchiectasis, pleural diseases, Interstitial lung disease, High flow oxygen, chest drain, non-invasive ventilation (NIV/CPAP) and tracheostomy. We also receive High Level care patients.

Main duties of the job
Manage, direct and evaluate the nursing care for a defined caseload of patients.Develop skills to provide senior nurse cover for the ward in the absence of the Ward Sister or Charge Nurse and Team Leaders.Contribute towards the continuing development of professional nursing practice on the ward.Maintain and develop high standards of nursing care, reflecting the beliefs about professional nursing practice and patient care outlined in the ward philosophy.Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of nursing practice relevant to the clinical area.Involve and encourage the patients family and friends to be actively involved in the caring process.Communicate effectively information to Patient/relatives/carers/ and all members of the multidisciplinary team.Work towards acting as a mentor and role model to others, reflecting the beliefs about professional nursing practice and patient care outlined in the ward philosophy.Conduct him/herself in a professional manner and act as a role model to junior staff at all times.Be proactive in the timely discharge planning of the patients.Be committed to delivering and upholding the Trust Values.We look after patients requiring treatment for COPD, Asthma, CF/Bronchiectasis, ILD, Pleural diseases and other Complex Respiratory Conditions. About us
Osler Respiratory Unit is part of the Specialist Medicine Directorate under MRC (Medicine, cardiac, Rehab) Division. The ward has 24 bed capacity mainly side rooms with only 1 bay with 2 beds. We look after high level care/high dependency patients. We guarantee a very good working environment supported by all the members of the Multidisciplinary team who focus on excellent compassionate care through continuous professional development , active participation in shared governance, decision making and research.

Education, training, qualifications and experience
Essential
- Registered Nurse (Part 1. 8. 12 or 15 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register depending on area of practice) or National Certification in area of Practice
- UK recognised Degree in Nursing relevant to post
- Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of an NMC revalidation or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years acute care registered nurse experience.
- Evidence of achievement of a Nursing and Midwifery, (NMC) approved Mentorship qualification.
Desirable
- Post-graduate qualification related to an area of practice.

- Articulate and knowledgeable of skills needed to deliver a high standard of care in the area of practice.
