An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Day surgery hub at KTC.

We are looking for dynamic nurse with initiative and an interest in Day surgery.

Previous experience is not necessary as we will offer a supportive and tailored development program with a dedicated mentor and supernumeracy period.

Main duties of the job

Practice autonomously and be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate, person centred care.

You would be managing patients both pre and post operatively. You will complete core competencies as laid out in the BADS guidelines for adult day surgery in order to provide a safe pathway to theatre and discharge.

You will require to work flexibly within the team in a dynamic and changeable environment, which can evolve throughout the day with competing demands and post operative requirements.

We want to find nurses with excellent communication skills to link our team, with the wider multidisciplinary services involved in our patients pathway. We are looking for individuals, who are not afraid to be an advocate for our patients and build up a rapport in a time where they can feel anxious and uncertain about their proceedure.

Patient care

You will be responsible for a group of patients without direct supervision.

As a registered, accountable, and autonomous nurse to always act in the best interests of your patients and take personal responsibility for your actions and decisions.

To be responsible for patient assessment, planning of care, giving, and supervising safe and compassionate care, and evaluating the effectiveness of care.

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care ensuring that these are evaluated and amended as appropriate.

Promote the health and well-being of your patients, clients, and groups.

Undertake and document a comprehensive, systematic, and accurate nursing assessment of the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of your patients, clients and their carers.

Formulate and document a plan of nursing care, where possible in partnership with your patients, clients, their carers, and family and friends, within a framework of informed consent

You will ensure patients dignity and privacy is maintained at all times.

Monitoring and assessing patients condition, responding to changes in condition, proposing/making changes to care as required.

Recognise if your patients health is deteriorating, manage the patient, escalate your concerns and take appropriate action.

Evaluate and document the outcomes of nursing and other interventions.

Demonstrate sound clinical judgement across a range of differing professional and care delivery contexts

Handover and transferring responsibility of care to colleagues, ensuring appropriate information regarding patient care requirements is relayed. Reporting and documenting all relevant patient needs, communicating changes to other health professionals in the multidisciplinary team.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • RGN Level 1 registered on NMC register Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience), with evidence of recent professional development.

Desirable

  • Practice Assessor/Supervisor for Students.

Experience

Essential

  • Able to work independently and prioritise patient caseload and individual workload. Well-developed communication skills, written verbal, and IT. Ability to work autonomously
