Job summary

Applicants are invited to apply for a Senior Training Fellow post (fixed term for 2 years) at the North Midlands Neurosciences Centre within the University Hospital of North Midlands (UHNM). You will join an established team in helping to deliver a General and Sub-specialty Neurology service within the North Midlands and beyond.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our existing team who provide general and sub specialist patient care at our Neurosciences Centre of Excellence.

The Neurology out-patient and in-patient services are supported by a dedicated Neurology Ambulatory Care Unit (NACU) which provides day-case services and we also offer a video telemetry service, supported by our Neurophysiology Department.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be expected to provide expert patient assessment in the diagnosis and management of all neurological conditions in both in-patents and out-patient settings. They will be required to actively engage in and develop Neurology services and to provide clinical leadership to others. A flexible approach will be required to working for our Trust, due to multiple site working. They will work collaboratively with colleagues to skills to provide new ways of working across different professions, organisations i.e. community/primary care.

Job responsibilities

An outline of the duties and responsibilities in the role are:

Participating in the management of acute and urgent emergency neurological cases

Outpatient attendance

Participation in the provision of general and specialist neurology services.

Assisting in the management of in-patients, including electronic discharges.

Contributing to the training of junior medical staff.

Assisting in the undertaking of full clinical computerised audits within the department.

Participation in the on-call rotation to provide on-call cover for emergencies.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration

Desirable

  • Completion of MRCP (UK)
  • Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st degree
  • Academic and extracurricular achievements
  • ALS certification

Experience

Essential

  • Foundation competencies or equivalent for those with full GMC registration
  • Appropriate skills & experience to demonstrate in neurology, minimum equivalent to ST3
  • 3 years continuous post-qualification experience in the relevant specialty meeting the pre-requisites of the Medical Training Initiative programme of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges

Desirable

  • Presented evidence of experience to date supported by references
  • Attainment of the UK Foundation Programme or an equivalent level of experience.

  • Proven ability to work as a member of a team is prudent and the ability to organise and prioritise busy workloads effectively and cope under pressure is crucial
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, senior medical staff and other health professionals is vital
  • Proficient and efficient handling of medical problems with evidence of safe sound practical procedures
