Main duties of the job

This role aims to support the overall learning experience for all medical learners by supporting the Clinical Facilitator to maintain and develop clinical placements (for medical students and junior doctors), providing best practice advice for mentors, assessors and educators, facilitating student forums to ensure learner voice is heard, documented and engaged with. The role will support design, deliver and evaluate corporate and local induction, ensuring that the needs of the individual, trust and stakeholders are met.

The postholder will strive to enhance the clinical learning environment to foster a culture of learning and ensure learners experience good quality care role modelling; they will work alongside the various divisions and clinical leads, support education representation at appropriate meetings and provide training and education guidance and advice where necessary.

The postholder will be expected to assist in the support and referring of learners in difficulty, providing robust documentation to guide development.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree level qualification (Or evidence of studying at level 6)
  • Practice Assessor qualification such as the mentorship preparation pathway, ENB 998 or equivalent. Or trained as a Practice Assessor under the Standards for Student Supervision & Assessment / Equivalent educator training
  • Registered professional: Nurse, Allied Healthcare Professional

Desirable

  • Post basic degree or equivalent study
  • Teaching / training qualification to a minimum of Diploma level or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable post registration experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Knowledge of HCPC Standards/NMC Code of Conduct, Standards for Student Supervision & Assessment and professional practice guidance
  • Demonstrates an interest in skills teaching within healthcare setting
  • Proficient in Word / Excel / power point

Desirable

  • Experience of using training programmes that employ a competency based approach to assessment
  • Experience of involvement in clinical audit
  • Experience of flexible ways of learning e.g. e-learning, developing written training packs etc
  • Experience of applying policies and protocols to improve practice
  • Knowledge undergraduate medical student clinical skills training
  • Experience in supporting BLS training by holding ILSi or ALS provider status
  • Experience in supporting manual handling training by holding Work Based Instruction status.
  • Experience in inducting staff into NHS organisations
