Job Profile Summary:

As an autonomous practitioner within a multidisciplinary team, the Bank Specialist Occupational Therapist will assess, treat and manage their own caseload developing specialist occupational therapy skills in their specific area.

The role will cover your area of specialism for example, Orthopaedics, Rehab and general surgery. The role will have opportunities to develop clinical and non-clinical specialist skills as well as experience within research, service development and progression into future leadership.

The role will involve supported supervision of therapy assistants and have supportive individualised supervision and performance development with senior occupational therapists. There will be opportunities to work within our team of teams model of care alongside specialists within their areas.

Job Responsibilities:

• Be legally and professionally responsible for all aspects of your work including safe and effective management of clinical and non-clinical caseloads
• Effectively apply clinical reasoning to assess, progress, adapt and treat patients seeking guidance at appropriate times to ensure safe and effective care
• Be able to identify risk within clinical setting including potential safety issues around care and discharge and communicate this effectively with support as appropriate.
• Maintain high levels of professionalism at all times including high levels of communication -verbal, non-verbal, written and alternative (use of interpreter as appropriate)- with all stakeholders
• Take a proactive lead in using routine outcome measures to improve patient care
• Keep informed of evidence, changes to practice, relevant research and guidance to discuss at regular opportunities to progress and develop own / MDT practice
• Be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work, ensuring a high standard of care and actively encourages and motivates others to do the same

Education:

• Degree in relevant AHP area
• Evidence of continuous professional / academic development relevant to clinical field

Certifications:

Current registration with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) essential

Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy (RCOT) desirable

Membership of special interest group desirable

Languages:

Ability to speak, read speak and write in English is required.

Complexity of Work:

• Effective and adaptable communication using a variety of verbal and written techniques to the needs of the patient, family, carer and wider MDT
• Ability to prioritise, delegate, organise and work effectively to a deadline
• Knowledge of role of psychological effects on rehabilitation and management of effects
• Knowledge of clinical governance including quality and effectiveness
• Able to maintain high level of CPD and integrate this within daily practice
• Ability to resolve conflict and establish and maintain good professional working relationships
• Ability to critical appraise and reflect on own practice
• Ability to work across the multi-disciplinary team including in multidisciplinary meetings, communicating with all relevant stakeholders including occupational therapy and case management teams.
• To understand and apply clinical governance principles to own caseload and support clinical leads in audit, quality, safety and effectiveness review as required.

Work Experience:

• A minimum of 12 months acute hospital experience working as a Occupational Therapist in one of the inpatient specialities including Orthopaedics, Neurological and general surgical specialities is essential
• Evidence of working within an multidisciplinary team including external multi agency
• Experience of participation and presenting of in-service training
• Previous senior occupational therapy experience in relevant post desirable
• Experience of discharge planning, referral provision, adaptive equipment provision to support treatment and discharge and the use of appropriate outcome measures

Physical Requirements:

• To be able to lead and assist in rehabilitation / manual handling of complex and potentially dependent patients with appropriate equipment and compliance with manual handling policies
• To work in inpatient environment with potential interruptions such as acutely deteriorating patients requiring urgent review, emotionally challenging scenarios requiring intense focus and frequent exposure to potentially unpleasant materials such as bodily fluids

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Safeguarding:

All caregivers have a personal and a professional responsibility to identify and report abuse. A patient or fellow caregiver may disclose information of being abused or suspected abuse. A caregiver may also witness abuse or simply have concerns of abuse taking place. Should any caregiver suspect abuse then it is vital that the CCLsafeguardingpolicy and procedure is immediately implemented.

It is the caregivers responsibility to ensure they are fully compliant with CCLssafeguardingand training and read, understood and adhere to the CCLsSafeguardingPolicy and Procedures.
